The house down the road from ours has been for sale for almost three years. Whenever I pass the For Sale sign I say a prayer for the owners. I know how much they need to sell, how they bought a house in another state that they had to rent to make both mortgage payments and I can remember how stressful it was two years ago when we were in the same situation. Back then whenever someone asked about our house, I'd say, "Please pray it sells."  Prayer is an amazing gift we can give one another. It's free, only takes a few moments yet its power and strength is boundless.

It is one of the most beautiful compensations of life, that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself.

Special Delivery
—Susan Filipp

My husband, Alex, and I were overjoyed when the doctor confirmed I was pregnant. "Thank you, God," I prayed. "Please let everything go right." And things did-until I went into labor two weeks early.

Alex and I rushed to the hospital at 5:30 A.M. In the delivery room, I could tell something was wrong. The doctors' and nurses' eyes were serious. I heard their urgent whispers. "Breech birth . . . she's too cold . . . quick!" Why won't they let me hold her? I wondered as I drifted off, exhausted.

A New Trust
Rufus, my golden retriever, and I sat in the yard that summer evening a year ago, enjoying the sunset. The yard wasn’t fenced; dense woods ran right up to the lawn. I’d snapped a long leash onto Rufus’s collar. If he strayed, I could easily grab it before he got into any trouble. Suddenly Rufus’s head jerked up. More.

The Voice I Never Knew
My dad always said I sounded like my mother. But I never knew if it was really true. Mom died when I was two.
Dad remarried, and although I loved my new mother, I often wondered about my mom. More.
