Funding Needs: Help Us Help Others

Knit for Kids

“The sweaters are more than just a source of warmth…they carry the message of your caring and the grace of God to the children. Each stitch is a prayer for the cold and needy.”   ―B.W., Sweater Distributor

Keeping Children Warm

An orphan in Kosovo faces another icy winter.

On a South Dakota reservation, a child braces for the season’s windy blizzards.

A retired school teacher finds fulfillment in knitting for others.

The joy of a youngster wrapped in a snuggly sweater is matched by the joy of the volunteer who made it.

Guideposts sweater project, Knit for Kids, was sparked with a column written by a Guideposts book editor and by the thousands of people who responded. Over 200,000 sweaters have been made and shipped from throughout North America and as far away as Australia.

  • Guideposts readers knit or crochet and send us sweaters. We send them on to our partner organizations, who know where the need is greatest.

  • Our partners distribute the sweaters to needy children in Nepal, China, Honduras, India, Romania, Haiti, Appalachia, reservations, Kosovo, and other locations.

Our mailbox is often stuffed with letters from organizations thanking us on behalf of the children who keep warm, thanks to the generous service of our readers and donors.

You Can Make a Difference

There is always a child who needs a warm sweater. If you love to knit or crochet, consider becoming a sweater volunteer. Charitable gifts help too, by providing for postage, supporting our outreach to partner organizations, and sustaining other logistics involved in making sure the most needy children receive our sweaters and support.
