Digging Deeper for Today: Thursday, Sept 20, 2018

The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Matthew 13:22-23 New International Version (NIV)

Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the

inheritance with me.”  Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter

between you?”  Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds

of greed;  life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”

And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man

yielded an abundant harvest. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have

no place to store my crops.’  “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my

barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.  And I’ll say to

myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and

be merry.”’  “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be

demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves

but is not rich toward God.”

Luke 12:13-21 New International Version (NIV)

Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

John 6:27 New International Version (NIV)

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Galatians 5:13 New International Version (NIV)

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.

Philippians 3:19 New International Version (NIV)

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. -Psalm 90:12 (ESV)
